The Rent Manager Development Team has been hard at work to bring ease-of-use and UI improvements to Rent Manager Express. As part of these ongoing updates, we recently released a “My Workspace” feature to make it easier for you to centralize your most-used pages and reports. Here, we’ll dive into what “My Workspace” is, how to use/customize it, and a few other helpful navigation tips within Rent Manager Express.
What is “My Workspace?”
The “My Workspace” page functions as a central hub for your most-used pages and reports. This will make it easier for you to navigate to the things you use the most, as well as help you organize them separately from the things you display on your Dashboard. While here, you can easily toggle between “My Workspace” and “My Dashboard” by clicking their name in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
How to Use “My Workspace”
Within the “My Workspace” hub, there are three columns to utilize: “My Favorites,” “My Reports,” and “Helpful Resources.” In the leftmost column of the “My Workspace” hub, you’ll see “My Favorites,” which gives you quick access to any pages you’ve favorited throughout your time in Rent Manager Express. These pages are categorized for you by type and can be adjusted at any time.
In the center, you’ll find a “My Reports” column, which works just the same as the “My Favorites” column but is specific to your most-used—you guessed it—reports.
On the righthand side of the screen, you’ll find the “Helpful Resources” column, which gives you quick access to learning materials such as the “Learn Your Way Around” video, Rent Manager Help, the Training Calendar, and more.
Adding, Removing, and Reorganizing Favorites
To add or remove Favorites, simply click the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the “My Favorites” column, click Edit, and select or unselect the pages accordingly. Here, you can choose from any category of page. To toggle between categories, select the category you would like to look at from the banner at the top of the pop-up window.
For example, if the “Applications” page was already Favorited, but you wanted to replace it with the “Assets” page instead, you would do the following:
- Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the “My Favorites” column
- Click Edit
- Click the filled star next to “Applications” to remove it from the list
- Click the unfilled star next to “Assets” to add it to the list
- Click Save
Further, if you click the three dots and choose Reorder, you can organize the layout of your Favorites any way you’d like. So, if you then wanted to reorganize these Favorites to your liking, you would click the three vertical dots again, choose Reorder, then drag the groups of Favorites to their desired positions in the column.
Adding, Removing, and Reorganizing Reports
The “My Reports” column works the same way as the “My Favorites” column, giving you the ability to save your frequently used reports to your Workspace. To add or remove reports, the process is the same as it was for Favorites.
For example, if you wanted to remove the “Balance Sheet” report and add the “Unit Balance Sheet” report instead, you would do the following:
- Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the “My Favorites” column
- Click Edit
- Find “Balance Sheet” in the list under the Accounting tab
- Click the filled star next to “Balance Sheet” to remove it from the list
- Click the unfilled star next to “Unit Balance Sheet” to add it to the list
- Click Save
If you have trouble locating the report you’re looking for or just want to go directly to it, you can always use the search bar in the upper lefthand corner of the “Edit My Reports” pop-up.
Lastly, just like with Favorites, you can also reorganize reports saved this way by clicking the three vertical dots again and then choosing Reorder.
Finding Pages Beyond “My Workspace”
Now that you have a firm grasp of how to utilize “My Workspace,” you may find that there are pages you need to navigate to that are not part of your favorited pages and reports. If you need to find such a page, click the hamburger menu at the top of the screen next to the Command Launch search bar. Here, you’ll find a range of options that can get you where you need to go. Also note that you can navigate back to your Workspace of Dashboard using the widgets at the top of the Menu pop up.
If you’d like to see everything offered in Rent Manager Express on one screen, click “Full Menu” in the top bar of the Menu pop up. Alternatively, if you know where you need to go and don’t want to look through the menu, search for the page in the Command Launch search bar at the top of your screen.
Learn How to Use an Unfamiliar Page
If you’ve gotten where you need to go, but you’re not quite sure how to use the page, Rent Manager Help is always within reach. On most pages, there is a question mark in the top right corner of the screen. Clicking that will bring you to the Help article for that page specifically.
Plus, because Rent Manager Express is browser-based, it acts as any webpage typically would. That means you can open pages in new tabs, bookmark pages to your browser, resize pages, zoom in and out, and even create multiple windows (for you multitasking taskmasters out there).
Customize Your Preferences
Lastly, because we’re in the business of customization, we’ve given you the power to set your Personal Preferences to your liking. To access your Preferences, click the icon with your initial in the top right corner of the screen. From here, you can set a variety of system, web, and personal preferences, and even adjust the aesthetic of the interface by selecting different text sizes and themes such as Dark Mode.
These are just a few of the many benefits of using Rent Manager Express, from the simple centralization of pages to expanded personalization and customization options available in the software. As you use Rent Manager Express, you’ll find more and more ways to streamline your processes and become more efficient in your day-to-day operations. Plus, if you’d like to learn more about the software and its capabilities, you can always refer to Rent Manager Help, Release Notes, and Rent Manager University for more.
